Artist Statement
Art touches the soul. It either slaps you, or caresses you. In my paintings I am getting out feelings. They are pictures and landscapes of my inner world. What I experience and how I experience it comes out on the canvas. The process is somewhat unconscious, but I have control. Intuitively knowing what to do, and when, also plays a large part. My aim is to express who I am. My goal is to connect with people. Picasso, Matisse, and Pollock are my influences.
I took Interior Design at the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga. I’ve also taken various art classes throughout my adult life; but, basically, I started painting because I felt the need to do it. Creating art gives me a sense of freedom and a feeling of connection to myself and others. When someone relates to my work, I am overwhelmed with gratitude that I have something to contribute to the world.
