The ArtistGadi Zamir was born and raised in Israel and has been living in the Cleveland area since 1999. He grew up in Jerusalem in the neighborhood of Kiryat Yovel and lived in Nahalal in the Jezreal Valley as an adult. Gadi majored in Literature and Philosophy at the Hebrew University High school and then served in the Israeli Defense Forces as a combat soldier for three and a half years. Later, he spent a year traveling to China, Cambodia, Vietnam and Thailand. Gadi began drawing and painting as a child and pursued an education and career in art after serving in the army. Currently, Gadi lives in South Euclid with his wife and three children. In 2004 Gadi completed studies at Ursuline College with a Bachelor of Arts in Psychology.
The Artwork Gadi Zamir’s works on wood are created using a combination of woodburning, stains, other finishes and applied materials such as metals, stones, gold leaf and cloth. Gadi forms his images around the grain found naturally in the wood and uses different techniques to complete his ideas. Many of the pieces are made with recycled wood and are distinguished by the individual characteristics of each piece of wood. The final works are the outcome of an exploration of new media and an incorporation of a lifetime of art making and they reflect a passion for the forces of life and nature that surround us. Gadi enjoys creating new pieces and discovering the hidden beauty in wood grain and other objects.
